My name is Mario D. Haggerty and I am an Independent candidate who seeks to represent District Four of Westmoreland County, Virginia. Just a little about me, I spent most of my adult life serving overseas in the United States Navy in Europe and Japan. I enlisted in 1996, earned a commission in 2005, and served as a naval officer until my retirement in 2019. Since then, I have managed critical defense projects as a contractor at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division and, currently, the Missile Defense Agency. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Master’s degree in Human Relations. I am a widowed single father of a senior at Westmoreland High School. Simply put, like you, I am a working and tax paying resident of this county and district.

Over the years, I have served on the Board of Directors for the Colonial Beach Performing Arts Association, Beach Arts Music and Mentorship, President of the Potomac Renaissance Homeowner’s Association, and I am a current board member of the Placid Bay Estates Civic Association. A big part of serving as a board member in these organizations is the responsibility of managing projects and allocating funds to such projects to ensure their timely and quality completion, within the agreed upon budget. Finding contractors to submit proposals and ensuring they are fully qualified to do the job at a reasonable price has not always been an easy task, but the experience I’ve gained has given me the confidence I need to assure you that your tax dollars will be taken seriously.
